Why Granite Bay Design?

Creativity and Practicality
I thoroughly enjoy the creative process. It keeps me going. I love type. I love color. I love white space. But I place just as much value on sticking to your budget, meeting your deadlines and making sure what I design for you does what you need it to do. It’s not about me winning awards. It’s about you winning over new customers and successfully communicating your message to your audience.

Artist and Project Manager
I pride myself on doing every job the right way from the beginning. I am equal parts artist and project manager. Years of experience with print design and production have given me the second-nature understanding of how a job gets from a designer’s brain to the printing press. This matters: to the creative process; to your budget; to your deadlines.

Expertise, Experience and Knowledge
Ever heard a story (or experienced it first-hand) of a desktop publisher sending a client’s job off to be printed only to discover the designer used 17 Pantone colors for a four-color process job? Does your designer understand the difference between Helvetica and Verdana and how that could negatively affect the consistency of your branding? The first example costs you money, because the printer has to convert the job to print properly. The latter can cost you business because it conveys sloppiness and inconsistency.

A Graphic Design Studio
Granite Bay Design is a graphic design studio, plain and simple. That means you pay me to do what I do best: design. Advertising agencies have their place and you may well need one. But sometimes your job simply needs a good designer, perhaps working with a clever copywriter or a creative photographer. I’ll work alone or assemble the right team for your project. I’ll work with your copy or your copywriter. I’ll use stock images wisely or hire the right photographer when it’s appropriate.

How I Work
I listen to you. I’ll ask you questions up front to be sure I’m not designing you out of a year’s budget for just one project. I get a sense for what you want, let it bounce around in my head for awhile then come back to you with a few different design approaches. The first couple of times around, this helps me understand what works for you and gives you the opportunity to see your product or service through different prisms, maybe sparking a way of looking at things that you hadn’t thought of before. Over time, we understand each other better and better, developing the shorthand that lets future jobs flow naturally to meet your needs and communicate your message without reinventing the wheel.

The Bottom Line
I work very hard to do the absolutely best job possible on every project. I strive to keep every job fresh and appealing. I promise you: I’ll give it all I’ve got. Call me at 203.483.1141 or use my online contact form.
