Quinnipiac University 2002-2003 Annual Report

In the August heat, then-Sophomore goalkeeper Conor Shilcock-Elliott, repeatedly recreated the motion of kicking a soccer ball on a hilltop ridge with photographer Tom Hopkins snapping shot after shot of film while I repeatedly retrieved a series of soccer balls, all with the aim of simulating the singular motion of kicking a soccer ball for the cover illustration for Quinnipiac University’s 2002-2003 Annual Report theme of “Studies in Motion.”

Later, in the cool of my studio, I pieced together seven different images in Photoshop to achieve the effect of fluid motion. To further highlight the University’s new motion analysis laboratory, I also created an abstract representation of how the motion analysis lab might have captured Conor’s real-life pre-kick position.
